Bulgaria / 111.000 sq. km in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula / is an extremely attractive center for treatment, prophylactics, recreation and tourism with its numerous resort areas, favourable climate, a 378 km long coastal strip with wonderful beaches, over 500 mineral water sources of varying physique-chemical composition and temperature and indisputable curative properties, dozens of lagoon firth mud sources and curative peat deposits.

Climate-balneological treatment traditions in the Bulgarian lands date back a long time. Therapy with thermal waters and climatic factors has a millennial history. In Thracian times, flourishing settlements emerged around the hot mineral springs and many nymphaeums were built. During Roman time sq spa centers were established such as Augusta / present day Hissar /, Dezudava / Sandanski /, Pautalia / Kyustendil / and Serdica /Sofia / where people from the Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor, the Middle East and Egypt sought relief for their ailments.Bulgaria now has over 200 hydro-mineral sources whose exploitation reserves are estimated at 14,000 l/sec.

High temperature mineral waters ( 50 - 100 C) with a high alkalinity and a low level of mineralization predominate.Mineral waters of this kind are almost nonexistent in Central, Northern and Northwestern Europe.
